Description | Chester's first gas works were erected in Cuppin Street in 1818 and new works were erected in Paradise Row in 1851. The company was incorporated by Act of parliament in 1858 and supplied gas to Chester and its suburbs until the nationalisation of the gas supply industry in the late 1940s.
